Social Fund

As a society, it is the collective responsibility to fund social programs because they benefit society as a whole. People pay taxes to maintain the city infrastructure, to maintain a clean water system and a sewage system, to fund education, police services and fire services. However, conservatives have no problem using their taxes to fund military adventures in the middle east. Why are they against social programs but support anti-social programs (killing people in war)?

self first. country second.

Because we give our own money to charity. We don’t steal other people’s money.

If you like collective efforts so much, try Cuba.

lol….do you like the IRS that much..?….lol I don’t!

Because the military keeps you safe here in this country.

They prefer taxing poor people in the US to pay for wars that kill poor people in other countries.

conservatives have no problem with those things and you probably know this

However, they do have problems with working for a living and then taxes being used to give to others that refuse to do so

City infrastructure, military, police, fire, sewage, transportation

Those are the things taxes should be spent on

Not giving health care to someone who decided they want to live in section 8 housing cause its easier then getting up at 8 to work at Burger King

Your question assumes that taking money from the productive to give to the unproductive solves more problems than it creates. I don’t agree with your underlying premise. Read “Losing Ground” by Charles Murray.

A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.

Hello, Paul.

How dare you tell anyone what their “collective responsibility ” may be.

We can have voluntary, private social programs.

Oh wait, that’s called charity.

Libs assume that conservatives and libertarians are against helping others. We’re not. We’re just against big brother, because big brother can only help people by infringing on the rights of others.

Charity is a wonderful thing.

I know he was able to tap into the Social Security fund, but what was the name of the bill that was passed which allowed him to access the funds? Prior to the Vietnem conflict, no one was allowed to touch Social Security because it was set up as a seperate entity.

Social Security Funds aren’t maintained in a separate safe box or deposit box. Just numbers floating around in the General Treasury or what was the General Treasury.

There is not now nor has there ever been a “fund”. It has always been covered by current taxation and the selling of Notes, Bonds and Treasury Bills.

I will say this again “There is No fund!!!” We need to be very clear on this…..”No fund!!!”

Congress authorized the funds for Viet Nam. Funding of the war began in 1947 when Pres. Truman covered 80% of the French costs of the fighting. This was added to over time by Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. It changed from funds to arms and training in the 50′s. In the 60′s the advisers grew from 750 to 16,000. Direct aid to S. Viet Nam began around 1956. In 1975 N. Viet Nam invaded the south as a test of will to the US Congress. Congress sat still when the north invaded in early 1975. With the US non responsive they continued on to Saigon.

Great job answering this Wayne C.! Looks like you have a clear and intelligent answer Roy!
